You “rent” the gas canisters (each lasts a few weeks in our house) via the mail. Need refills? They send you a UPS mailer box with the filled ones and you put the empties in and send it back.

You can buy soda flavoring (1 small concentrate bottle yields 12 liters of soda) in formulas for all major sodas (Coke/Diet/Fresca/Mountain Dew/Dr. Pepper/Rootbeer/Cream Soda/Orange soda, etc.). I drink their “Diet Cola” (Diet Coke clone) and I now prefer it to DC. For sparkling water, you don’t need any flavoring - although we like it with a wedge of lemon/lime.
